ISSUE: CULTIVATING MORE FEMALE LEADERS
CHANGE MODEL
Recruitment: The "Women in the Red" campaign encourages women and girls to pursue leadership opportunities. Cultivating potential leaders to play an active role in civic life, the campaign builds off of the 2010 constitution that mandated a larger role for women in society.
KEY OBJECTIVES
- Increase women's civic participation
- Cultivate women leaders for the 2017 election
- Increase positive media coverage of women leaders
OUTCOMES
Across Kenya, women are being recognized as leaders:
- 2.3 million radio listeners tuned in to hear inspiring emerging women leaders on Radio Maisha
- 2.7 million television viewers watched our programming on public television station KBC
- In communities we engage, women are more likely to demand services from authorities, obtain a driver’s license, or pursue men-dominated job opportunities like solar-light vending
