On January 14, 2016 the Ford Foundation, ITVS, USAID and Women and Girls Lead Global invited a diverse group of filmmakers, NGO leaders and educators to experience the impact of media and social change for women and girls around the world at a very special event at the Ford Foundation headquarters in New York.

In August 2015, Women and Girls Lead Kenya launched the Women in the Red Leadership Awards, putting out a call for nominations to partners in 27 counties across the country. elected from over 70 nominations, the finalists varied from 14-year-old peer educator and reproductive health advocate Serah Mwakali Mulwa, to 53-year-old Beatrice Kimani, a peace mobilizer and advocate in Burnt Forest, risking her life to take a stand against ethnic conflict.
On October 8, 2015, WGLG Kenya will bring together the countries most influential women leaders in media and technology through a live stream event with OVEE.

On September 9th, Women and Girls Lead Global and our partners ITVS, Ford Foundation, USAID and CARE hosted a Global Gender Gap Challenge at the gorgeous GitHub headquarters. The goal of the event was to create new design and ideas that will transform the lives of women and girls.
Campaigning among friends and colleagues on Facebook, Margaret Tawa has won the Listener’s Choice Award hosted on WGL-Kenya’s “Women in the Red” radio show. Founder of an organization for orphans and vulnerable children, head of two community schools, and planning to run for County Assembly in 2017, Margaret can’t be stopped!
Purity Wangui Muchai hails from Nakuru County, Kenya. At only 23, she has already been a student leader for the past 3 years. She heads the Women Students’ Welfare Association (WOSWA), reaching over 37,000 female students at the University of Nairobi and other campuses throughout the country. Women and Girls Lead Global’s campaign in Kenya, Women in the Red, encourages girls and women to pursue leadership opportunities by showcasing the stories of strong role models like Purity.
We often think of leadership as monumental and large-scale, such as founding an organization or initiating a movement. But leadership comes in many forms, and WGLG Country Engagement Coordinator Josephine Karianjahi discussed with the Kenya Television Network’s host Michael Gitonga during a recent interview on “Morning Express.” Gitonga spoke with Karianjahi about the goals of WGLG’s Women in the Red campaign: to encourage more women to take on leadership positions, and to celebrate women who have exhibited extraordinary leadership qualities.
